Knee osteoarthritis (OA)

A common osteomioarticular ailment that affects approximately 1 in every 5 adult aged 50 years and older-based on studies conducted from Farmingham study, Kim and colleagues.

Although the term Arthritis is a wide term, Osteo arthritis is a condition that affects the osteomioarticular joints with multifactorial roots, which involve the wear and tear of joint tissue due to mechanical loading. The high prevalence of Knee OA  has been closely related to the increase in joint age and high body mass index. Other causes include traumas to the knee joints, localized infections and even genetic factors.

What can we do?

Prevention of OA is almost unavoidable to the average human, considering the nature of the pathology and the common non-modifiable factor of age. However, early interventins can significantly reduce the possibilities of eventually developing OA as one ages.

We at TrueCare are advocates of early prevention, hence why we encourage a healthy lifestyle to start off with. Diet rich in antioxidants.

In the event that you do start showing signs of OA, The use of anti-inflammatory herbs and foods can be a great start.

Turmeric, ginger, lemon grass. Garlic etc, are only some of the natural remedies one can find within their kitchen everyday.

Should your OA become so painful for you to cope with your normal daily activity, we can conduct a minimally invasive intervention called a joint infiltration. A simple procedure where you will have medication injected in the knee joint to alleviate the pain for a longer period of time. Pharmaceuticals are also available at our clinic to treat OA of the knee.
