Ingrown toenails

Many have been troubled by the anoying pain that is provoked by such a small and offer overlooked buddy part. Yes- those toenails that just choose to bury themselves deep into the surrounding flesh of our toes.

Ingrown toenails often arise from the use of right our closed toe footwear which overtime force the nails to redirect their usual growth pattern and eventually grow into the surrounding soft tissue of the toes. This usually results in inflammation and or worse, infection of the affected area. Cutting the nail end in a curved manner instead of straight is also a cause.

What can you do?

‌There are many ways in which this problem can be resolved.  The first is by prevention through proper foot care. Preventing the use of tight or close fitting shoes  can reduce the chances of this painful issue. Cutting the nail straight instead of cutting it in a curved fashion helps also.Anti-inflammatory medications may be used to reduce the pain and in cases of infection, the bed for antibiotics may arise.

In more severe cases, part of or the entire nail may need to be removed so as to stop the uncontrolled growth. This can be done under local anesthesia- another service which is offered at our medical clinic.
